Program Overview

Established by the NIMH in 2000, the Molecular Imaging Branch (MIB) uses a variety of neuroimaging techniques to explore molecular and chemical mechanisms associated with neural function in health and disease. The overall goal of the Branch is to further elucidate pathophysiological mechanisms associated with neuropsychiatric disorders, with the expectation that such knowledge will ultimately decrease the burden of these illnesses by helping guide the development and evaluation of improved therapeutics for these disorders.

Position Overview

The Molecular Imaging Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has a postdoctoral fellowship beginning in 2024. This Branch uses state-of-the-art PET (positron emission tomography) techniques and newly developed radioligands to study molecular/protein targets in the brain. New radioligands are developed and evaluated with PET imaging of animals (rodents and monkeys), extended to healthy subjects and then to patients with neuropsychiatric disorders.

The NIH imaging facilities and our research team provide outstanding opportunities for productivity. In addition, the fellow will have ample opportunities to learn from experts in the field and acquire skills required to pursue a neuroimaging career in academia or industry.

The candidate will be able to start postdoctoral fellowship within five years of having obtained a doctoral degree, either PhD or MD.
