These institutional grants provide research training, mentoring, and educational opportunities at an institutional level to support multiple scientists and clinical-researchers at various levels of training.

Funding opportunities for Institutional Training Grants (T32)
NIMH encourages innovative Institutional Training Grant (T32) applications to support research training programs within the research areas and research priorities supported by the Institute. Research training programs are designed to allow the Training Program Director / Principal Investigator (Training PD/PI) to select the trainees (predoctoral and/or postdoctoral fellows) and develop a curriculum of study and research experiences necessary to provide high quality research training. The grant offsets the cost of stipends, tuition and fees, and training related expenses including health insurance for the appointed trainees in accordance with the approved NIH support levels.
Institutions should ensure that a contingency plan is in place for any new trainees added within the last year of funding to ensure the successful career progression of the trainee should the competing application not be awarded. There should be no expectation that NIMH will continue to support trainees through the T32 program once the program's funding has ended.
NIMH encourages its T32-supported trainees to submit individual funding applications to provide support for their mentored research training after their appointment on the T32 has ended.
Training PDs/PIs are strongly encouraged to contact Institute program staff well in advance of the receipt deadline to discuss their institution’s application plans. The NIMH informational webinar on T32 applications may be a useful resource in preparing applications.

Funding opportunities for Research Education Grants (R25)
NIMH supports Research Education Grants (R25) designed to provide Institutional support for creative and innovative research education programs. Supported activities include include 1) the development of programs to support research-oriented residents during psychiatry residency, 2) the development of short-courses, and 3) the development of mentoring networks for individuals.
Program Directors and Investigators are strongly encouraged to contact an NIMH Research Training and Career Development representative well in advance of the receipt deadline to discuss their institution’s application plans.
